Organic cinnamon suffers from the most delicious identity crisis there is: savoury or sweet? Taken from the inner bark of Cinnamomum trees, the spice is used in traditional gourmet dishes across the globe. But not all cinnamon is created equal. Cassia cinnamon is of lower quality and originates from Southern China. It’s spicier, has a tangier bite, and is considered to be subpar for most authentic recipes. That’s why we use organic Ceylon cinnamon for our spice array. Organic Ceylon cinnamon is originally from Sri Lanka. It’s a much higher quality spice and is commonly used in authentic, traditional Indian and Asian dishes.  Also known as Dalchini, organic cinnamon is frequently used to cut the sweet out of sugary treats. The earthy aromatic is renowned for its desserts (who hasn’t obsessed over homemade cinnamon buns or apple cinnamon fritters?). But Dalchini is far from relegated to the dessert side of cooking! Its diverse and complex flavour profile makes it a perfect addition to unusual dishes (sweet potatoes and monkey bread come to mind as family favourites). Organic cinnamon’s addition to chutneys, teas, and vegetables can turn even the blandest of dishes into a marvellous creation. Whether you’re looking to throw some organic cinnamon powder into your hot chocolate or prefer to add a cinnamon stick to your ice cream, there’s no end to cinnamon’s applications.

    How to use organic cinnamon?

Organic cinnamon can be cooked, consumed, and used aesthetically. Like most spices, Dalchini’s uses are dependant on the form it comes in.

    Application: food

Organic cinnamon is delicious no matter how you slice it - or, rather, how you sprinkle it. Use it by the teaspoon in stews and curries, or put it in a sugar sifter to take your doughnuts to the next level. Organic cinnamon can also be used in mulled wine for those fancy holiday parties - just do everyone a favour and don’t spend half the party telling everyone that your mulled wine is homemade from scratch, okay, Brenda? We get it. You’re a great host.

But seriously, what can’t you put organic cinnamon into?

    Application: other

So you don’t just want to be friends with Dalchini. You need it everywhere. Eating it doesn’t satisfy that sweet, savoury craving. We get it. Organic cinnamon is awesome. That’s why we’re here telling you that it’s okay - even encouraged - to use cinnamon oil in your diffuser. (Who doesn’t want their home smelling like a Christmas wonderland in July?) Other uses include: using organic cinnamon in teas to soothe sore throats, as a face mask to relieve skin concerns like acne and blemishes - and as a quick fix for scratches in your furniture. (No, really. You can fix your furniture with ground cinnamon).

Plus, you can feel great about doing something good for the environment! That certainly deserves a second helping of cinnamon buns…

While organic cinnamon’s health benefits have been clearly established, it should be noted that Dalchini is not a replacement for modern medicine. Please make sure to seek professional medical advice from a qualified doctor or other healthcare professionals when looking to treat specific medical ailments.
