Product Description

Organic garam masala is one of the best things that’s ever come out of Indian cooking. Its floral and earthy aromas give way to a spicy, sweet, slightly bitter flavour that permeates into every sauce it touches. Translating to simply delicious (or “a hot mix of spices” if you want to get technical), garam masala is actually a blend of different spices and herbs that varies from region to region. Common ingredients for homemade garam masala include cumin, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, mace, cloves, bay leaves, peppercorns, fennel, and star anise. Of course, you’re more than welcome to add your own spin on this - pretty much every Indian chef in the history of cooking has. We think it’s easier just to upend our pre-mixed (and traditionally blended) container into a pan, but hey. You do you.

How to use organic garam masala?

Organic garam masala can be cooked, consumed, and used aesthetically. Like most spices, garam masala’s uses are dependent on the form it comes in.

Application: food

While there’s no doubt that garam masala could be delicious on, say, tacos, the spice blend is pretty much only used to jazz up Indian cuisine. (If you try garam masala tacos, though, let us know how it goes!) Before incorporating the spice into any dish, organic garam masala is toasted to release the natural oils and ground into a fine powder. It’s a great addition to curries and stews but is usually only added once the cooking is almost done. That way, guests can smell the floral aroma - and it won’t conflict with the other spices used during cooking. You can check out some exciting garam masala recipes here!

Application: other

Because organic garam masala is a spice blend, there aren’t a lot of the same extra-cooking uses as other spices. However, one thing garam masala does very well is acting as a fragrant, welcoming scent. Toast your garam masala before you strictly need to, and your kitchen will smell exotic and inviting.

Ingredients

100% Organic Cumin, Coriander, Green & Black Cardamom, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Mace, Cloves, Bay Leaves, Peppercorns, Fennel, and Star Anise

Country of origin

Garam masala originates from Northern India. A staple of traditional Mughal cuisine, organic garam masala can contain a variety of different spices originating from all over the world. As a warming spice, garam masala was often used on chilly winter nights in the northern Indian provinces. Organic garam masala is now a worldwide sensation, although it’s still primarily used in curries and other traditionally Indian dishes.

Storage / Packaging

Organic garam masala should be sealed at ambient temperature. The container should be kept in a dry area - and kept out of direct sunlight. When stored correctly in its original box, our blended garam masala has a shelf life of 1.5 years from its packaging date.

Although it’s true that all spices will eventually lose their flavour over time, our packaging works to stretch every tasty second of organic garam masala’s shelf life. Made out of biodegradable, compostable bags designed to lock in every morsel of flavour, you can rest easy knowing that your ingredients will always taste right. Plus, you can feel great about doing something good for the environment! That certainly deserves a second helping of skillet garam masala apple crips...

Complimentary Spices

Garam masala is kind of a loner. It’s like those twins you knew in school who were nice and polite, but really only wanted to hang out with each other. Because organic garam masala is a blend of numerous spices, it’s usually best to add it into dishes by itself. Finish off whatever you’re cooking with a dash of toasted, organic garam masala and you won’t have to worry about including any other spices.

While organic garam masala’s health benefits have been clearly established, it should be noted that it isn’t a replacement for modern medicine. Please make sure to seek professional medical advice from a qualified doctor or other healthcare professionals when looking to treat specific medical ailments.
