Product Description

Bell peppers are a pretty ubiquitous cooking staple. They add flavour without too much heat; they add colour without being overpowering; they make a lovely chiming sound in the steam. (Okay, maybe not the last one.) Made from these delicious peppers, organic paprika has the same versatility packed into a powdery orange spice. Paprika’s sweet taste is undercut by a touch of bitter, making it as complicated as your last bad relationship. It doesn’t compromise on flavours, though. Imagine being able to take your rugby team to the pub in a smart car, without anyone getting squished. That’s paprika powder. Throw a pinch in your shellfish, your rice, or even your hot chocolate for a bittersweet tang that will keep your lips smacking and your tastebuds singing. (Apologies in advance for anyone that has to listen to your taste buds sing.)

How to use organic paprika?

Organic paprika can be cooked, consumed, and used aesthetically. Like most spices, paprika’s uses are dependant on the form it comes in.

Application: food

While primarily used in classic Hungarian cuisine, organic paprika is really a worldwide sensation. From sausages to salsa, toasted organic paprika makes an excellent addition to basic flavour profiles. Its sweet bitterness is reminiscent of first loves and Friday nights gone horribly right. One of the best uses for paprika is in Hungarian goulash. Perfect for a hearty meal, traditional goulash is a solid option for stew lovers with a flair for cooking.

Application: other

Is there anything better than walking into a kitchen that smells like something hearty is about to be served? Well, trick your family into thinking you’re cooking from scratch with some brewed paprika potpourri. Use a teaspoon of organic paprika in a pot of boiling water to create a welcoming (but not overpowering) scent. Bonus points if what you’re cooking smells funky (I love a good fish fry as much as the next guy, but it does make the kitchen smell), since boiled paprika will help to eliminate odours and smells. Organic paprika can also be added into homemade soaps for colour, scent, and softer skin.

100% Organic Paprika

Country of origin

Paprika is made from bell peppers, which originate in North America. A staple of Central Mexico, the bell peppers have been cultivated for centuries before being introduced to Old World Europe. From there, paprika was traded across European countries. Today, organic paprika is primarily used in Hungarian dishes and to boost the natural pink colours of zoo flamingos.

Storage / Packaging

Organic paprika should be sealed at ambient temperature. The container should be kept in a dry area - and kept out of direct sunlight. When stored correctly in its original box, our dried paprika has a shelf life of 1.5 years from its packaging date.

Although it’s true that all spices will eventually lose their flavour over time, our packaging works to stretch every tasty second of organic paprika’s shelf life. Made out of biodegradable, compostable bags designed to lock in every morsel of flavour, you can rest easy knowing that your ingredients will always taste right. Plus, you can feel great about doing something good for the environment! That certainly deserves a second helping of chocolate paprika truffles...

Complimentary Spices

Organic paprika is one of the most widely used spices in the world. Because of its more subtle aroma, organic paprika is an easy spice to pair with more intensely scented herbs and spices. It goes well with many different spices found in American, Mediterranean, European, and Asian dishes, including:

  • Allspice
  • Caraway
  • Cardamom
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Oregano
  • Parsley
  • Pepper
  • Rosemary
  • Saffron
  • Thyme
  • Turmeric
  • Sour Cream
  • Yogurt

Organic Paprika Health Benefits

Organic paprika was used in the New World as traditional medicine long before it made its way across the ocean. Sweet paprika benefits include a startling number of vitamins and minerals. Unfortunately for all you science fans, the Nobel prize connecting paprika to vitamin C was given out in 1937, to Albert Szent-Gyorgyi. You can still enjoy all the other benefits of paprika powder, though - and when someone tells you you shouldn’t eat that fifth paprika-chocolate chip cookie, you can tell them it’s for your health. Check out some of the other excuses you can use:

  • Organic paprika contains high amounts of vitamins B (which can help induce sleep) and C (which can protect against cardiovascular disease).
  • It’s also great for your hair, working to prevent hair loss while boosting natural hair colouring.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties found in organic paprika may work to protect brain health.
  • Organic paprika has been linked to increases in saliva and stomach acid production, promoting healthy digestion.

The buck doesn’t stop there! Organic paprika is still being investigated for its effectiveness in a variety of other areas of medicine. Many exciting new findings have indicated that organic paprika’s medicinal properties are extensive.

While organic paprika’s health benefits have been clearly established, it should be noted that it isn’t a replacement for modern medicine. Please make sure to seek professional medical advice from a qualified doctor or other healthcare professionals when looking to treat specific medical ailments.
